Our Story
In February 2019, a young man working with the Ghana Statistical Service and Kintampo Health Research Centre was sent to Aniakragya in the Assin Foso Municipality as Team Leader for the Malaria Vaccine Pilot Evaluation (MVPE). While there, he discovered that the only water source for Aniakragya and nearby communities—the River Pra—had been polluted by illegal mining (“galamsey”). With no rainfall in the first quarter of the year, residents had to walk over two hours to an unprotected spring shared with animals to get drinking water.
After returning to Accra, the young man shared photos of the situation on WhatsApp, receiving 447 views and many reactions. One message came from a friend in Dubai, shocked by the conditions and determined to help. Upon returning to Ghana, this friend, Mr. Henry Assumeng Ankrah, funded a mechanized borehole for the Aniakragya community.
This act of generosity inspired the creation of the HEAN 1 Foundation, founded by Mr. Henry Assumeng Ankrah later in 2019. After completing all legal processes, the foundation was officially certified by the Registrar General’s Department on December 27, 2019.
Born out of compassion for a deprived community, HEAN 1 Foundation continues to work to improve the lives of the underprivileged.
Our Role
In many parts of society, underserved communities continue to face barriers that limit their access to basic needs and opportunities. HEAN 1 Foundation exists to bridge that gap. With a mission to empower people through sustainable interventions in health, education, clean water and sanitation, and livelihood development, the organization plays a crucial role in building a more equitable and resilient society.
HEAN 1 Foundation serves as a voice for the marginalized, ensuring that those often left out of mainstream development are included in the nation’s progress. It works at the grassroots level, listening to communities, understanding their realities, and co-creating solutions that respond to their unique challenges.
